My husband recently made this beautiful wooden dresser and placed it in our bedroom.
When he finished, he stood back, looked at it proudly, and said:
“It looks great!”
I looked at it and honestly wasn’t convinced.
I told him that I wasn’t sure it looked nice in our bedroom.
He completely disagreed.
Now we’re having a friendly disagreement about it, and I thought I’d ask for some honest opinions.
Step 1: Looking at the Overall Design
The first thing that stands out is the traditional style.
The dresser has a warm natural wood finish with beautiful grain patterns throughout the drawers and frame.
It definitely isn’t a simple, modern piece of furniture.
It has a very classic, handcrafted appearance.
Step 2: The Mirror
The large attached mirror is probably the most noticeable feature.
It has a rounded rectangular shape surrounded by an elaborate wooden frame.
The decorative side pieces give it a vintage furniture feel.
Personally, I think the mirror makes the whole piece feel much more substantial than an ordinary bedroom dresser.
Step 3: The Carved Details
The more closely I look at it, the more details I notice.
There are decorative carvings around the mirror, along the sides, beneath the drawers, and around the legs.
These aren’t details you would normally see on inexpensive mass-produced furniture.
Someone had to spend considerable time shaping and finishing all those elements.

Step 4: The Wood Grain
Another thing that caught my attention is the natural wood grain.
The dresser has several beautiful grain patterns running across the drawers and top.
Rather than covering the wood with a completely opaque finish, the design allows the character of the wood to remain visible.
That gives the piece a warm, old-fashioned appearance.
Step 5: The Drawers
The dresser has several drawers of different sizes.
The smaller upper drawers provide convenient storage for smaller items, while the larger lower drawers offer more room for clothing and other bedroom belongings.
The decorative handles also add to the vintage character.
Step 6: Why I’m Still Unsure
Here’s where my husband and I disagree.
He sees a handcrafted piece with character.
I see a piece that feels somewhat heavy and old-fashioned for our bedroom.
I tend to prefer simpler furniture.
He likes furniture that looks substantial and traditional.
So perhaps the disagreement isn’t really about whether the dresser was made well.
It’s about personal taste.

Step 7: Looking at the Work Behind It
Even though I’m not completely sold on the style, I have to admit something.
My husband clearly put a lot of work into this.
Creating a piece like this requires patience, woodworking skills, careful measurements, sanding, finishing, and attention to detail.
The carved elements alone must have taken considerable effort.
And knowing that he made it himself makes it different from simply buying something from a furniture store.
Step 8: Maybe It Just Needs the Right Room
I’m also wondering whether the dresser would look different if the rest of the bedroom were styled around it.
With the right bedding, lighting, wall color, and accessories, perhaps the traditional design could actually become the centerpiece of the room.
Maybe I’m judging it too quickly because I’m comparing it with the modern style I usually prefer.
Step 9: The Question We Can’t Agree On
My husband thinks we should keep it exactly as it is.
I think it might need some changes—or perhaps even a different finish—to make it fit better with our bedroom.
Neither of us has convinced the other yet.
So now I’m asking everyone else.
What do you think?
Would you proudly have this in your bedroom?
Do you love the traditional carved wood and vintage appearance?
Or do you think the design is too heavy and old-fashioned?
Be honest, but please be kind.
After all, whatever your opinion, there’s one thing I can’t deny:
My husband made it with his own hands, and that makes this piece pretty special to me—even if I’m still trying to decide whether I actually love the way it looks!
